War on Our Border. Who Cares? We Should

In case you haven't noticed there is a war taking place just south of our border with Mexico. Over the last couple of years various Mexican drug cartels are battling for control of lucrative drug routes into the U.S. It seems that calls for increased security along the border by local politicians and residents of the area have fallen on deaf ears. The Obama administration in it's usual long on rhetoric and short on substance approach to problems seems to be turning a deaf ear on the problem. However, in all honesty the Bush White House did little to ameliorate the problem either.
Over the last year over six thousand people have been killed in Mexico directly attributed to drug violence. And close to one thousand have been killed in the last three months in Juarez alone. Several of the killings are especially brutal, it seems that be-headings are the fare of the day. It's not unusual for the Juarez coroner to get fifty deliveries a day, and despite all of this happening right at our border our government does nothing.
Consequently, Phoenix, Arizona has the dubious distinction last year of being the number two city in kidnappings in the world next to Mexico City. It's rumored that many of the drug cartel leaders have taken up residence on this side of the border, and most of the kidnappings are brought on as a result of the drug violence. Mexican immigrants who use to venture over the border for a better life are now turned into drug couriers. Many of them are victims in this war for drug profits.
Evidently, Mr. Obama doesn't see any of this as a threat to our national security. He obviously feels that stopping the flow of illegal immigrants into this country and closing our borders would be viewed negatively by the latino community. It couldn't be that the hispanic community votes heavily democratic and that may be factored into the equation?
Unfortunately, it's become apparent in less than two months that the new administration despite all its promises and ballyhoo is just a rudderless ship awash in a sea of lies.
